I was just introduced to a new movement. It's called To Write Love On Her Arms. It might be just another bunch of teenagers wanting to think they're making a difference, but for me, as a survivor...they hit home. I am now the proud owner of a To Write Love On Her Arms T-shirt and I will continue to support them.
I will say that I don't agree with everything they say, but the main idea means something. Quote from their myspace site:
"A friend of mine told me there's no such thing as suicide prevention. This is an attempt to prove him wrong, to say that love can change a life. We can hold back the darkness. Rescue is possible."
Sometimes you just need to feel like someone else gets you.

I agree with that statement. I believe that each of us holds the power to help change a life, 'save someone' if you will. We can't make the decision for them, but we can be a powerful influence in the lives of those around us - those we know and those we don't.
It's at times like these that I wish I were more aware of how my behavior influences others....makes you stop and think.

When I was in 7th grade, a boy who I was in band with, killed himself. My heart still aches for him and his family. I wish so much I would've smiled at him or at least talked to him. That was my only experience with suicide, and it really hit me hard.
I think To Write Love On Her Arms is a good idea, Alli.
